Bridesmaids Dresses Link

•July 8, 2009 • Leave a Comment

I have spent the last few days hanging out in the hospital with my grandfather.  He had a minor stroke but is doing fairly well.    During that time I have succumbed to my guilty pleasure of reading A LOT of People Magazine.  I found something interesting in the Summer “Style Watch” – a link to a website with some great bridesmaid’s dresses.

One of my favorite things to see is when bride’s pick non-traditional dresses for their bridesmaids; you know, dresses that don’t necessarily look  like bridesmaids dresses and can be reworn without it being obvious that you are recycling a bridesmaids dress.   In all honesty, my least favorite place to shop for anything bridal is David’s Bridal.  As a bridesmaid, I have had horrible experience after horrible experience there.

The problem is, is that it is really hard to find affordable and classy at other places.   Problem solved.

Check out FashionJunkee for some great outfits AND some unique and fun bridesmaids dresses

Family Pictures

I had a ridiculously fun time with the “K” family the other night.  You might recognize the flower girl from a certain, recent wedding….

Zoe had the cutest little necklace on.  Stephanie did a great job with the families attire… it fit together perfectly.

Both girls are so expressive… I took about 100 pictures in a row of each – and they all looked different.

Look at those eyes!

Our new studio location:

IMG_0282

As many may know, my father has been helping me with the business for several years.    After much contemplation, Rick has decided to officially join me in the business full-time!

Yesterday, we  signed the lease for a studio space in Centerburg.    If you are familiar with the town, then you probably know where the old Peak Realty Building is – that will soon be the new home for Ellis Photography.  We are going to start fixing up the building next week and will be sure to let you know exactly when we are open for business!  Until then, I am still available to photograph on location, as always!

And yet another wedding I shot with the wonderful Chris…  I absolutely adored this wedding and fell in LOVE with this couple and their families.     It was a wonderful pleasure meeting you all.

The dress:

This may be the most killer dress EVER. EVER.   I have never seen anything like it.  Fantastic….

Micah and Tj Engagement Session – Part Dos

•June 23, 2009 • Leave a Comment

Here are the promised pictures from Micah and TJ’s engagement session…we did a mini-session a few months ago for their invitation picture….but this session was another marathon session.   It was suppose to rain, but the weather cooperated beautifully – a few light sprinkles here and there did nothing but make the sky very impressive!

Hope you love the pictures!

Website Update

•June 18, 2009 • Leave a Comment

I finally have finished updating my website!   I’ve had several people inquire about whether some of my travel/art work is for sale… so I created an online art store.    I also updated my travel galleries for your viewing pleasure!

As for the art, if there is a picture you would like to purchase and it isn’t in the online store, please don’t hestitate to email me about it.  I’ll be happy to add more to the store; I just wanted to start small and see where this goes!

Stay tuned for images from Micah and TJ’s engagement session last night – the weather turned out perfect (maybe a little humid), the sky was incredible, and of course Micah and TJ were a riot!

Kate and Chad – E-Session

•June 16, 2009 • 1 Comment

Remember my last post about how much I LOVE Jeni’s ice cream?  Well, this is the fabulous couple that was kind enough to introduce me to (and even BUY) Jeni’s.  They certainly know how to win brownie points with me!    One of my main goals with engagement sessions is to get pictures that really show the personalities of the couple – who they are AS a couple!  Well, Kate and Chad LOVE going to the Arena District, Blue Jacket Hockey, and ice cream….so we tried to incorporate these in the shoot… here are a few from the evening.

0002

Kate couldn’t stop laughing at first  – she was a little worried that it wouldn’t make for good pictures… I think this one shows otherwise. Precious!

0001

They actually got engaged at a Blue Jacket game on the big screen…how cool is that??? These of course, have special significance.

We took two series at Nationwide, because I feel like we could totally do two different feels here.   I think they look like total fashion models here! :)

Ok, 50 points to whomever can tell me what exactly this is. We saw this on the way to a park…. our best guess was some smart car on  a mission to break a record (there was a van following it)… just wondered if anyone else knew anything about it.

Had a blast guys – September is going to be here before you know it!

Ode to Jeni’s…

•June 12, 2009 • Leave a Comment

On Tuesday, Chad, Kate and I got together for an engagement session.  I haven’t had time to go through their images yet…but let me tell you, I just can’t stop thinking about Jeni’s!    Turns out, Chad and Kate are total ice cream fanatics. When I suggested using ice cream as a prop, they knew exactly where to go:  Jeni’s!

Oh my goodness…. I haven’t had ice cream this good in ages!!!!

Jeni is a local girl and has several locations around the Columbus area (but she does SHIP, if you are out of state).   Her ice creams are not for those with boring taste buds; you have to be slightly adventurous to get the most of her flavors.   My favorite (I had a triple) was goat cheese with roasted red cherries…heavenly!  Her staple flavor is Salty caramel, but I also here that that Queen City Cayenne is delectable!     Definitely a must-taste this summer!

Kate and Chad…I’m going to work on your images over the weekend!

Lauren and David – Detroit Wedding

•June 11, 2009 • Leave a Comment

I’ve never been a second shooter, photographers assistant, or whatever you would like to to call it so I was SO excited when my friend  (and phenomenal photographer)  Chris, called and asked if I could help him out at a wedding.    Not only was I getting to photograph at a fabulous location with fabulous people, but I was also really excited to see how Chris worked, learn a little about his technique…and just observe some.   As some of you may know, I am a completely self-taught photographer.  I never took photography classes (except for one “how to use the camera” class) nor  have  I ever interned with another wedding photographer….so this was a great experience!

The wedding was actually three weekends ago in Detroit at the Detroit Yacht Club on Belle Island.    Lauren and David made for an incredibly beauitful and sweet couple. As you will see from the pictures,  David is obviously enamored of his bride and isn’t afraid to show his love!  Beautiful.  Here are a few from the day:

Unposed, Lauren took a moment before the ceremony to see her guests arriving and calm some nerves…

Chris in action…. :)

Lauren and David had a traditional Jewish ceremony.   The chuppah was made by Lauren’s parents making the ceremony even more personal.

A few from the formals:  I didn’t do any posing, but rather I photographed from the side….attempting to capture a different angle than Chris.

Kristen and Travis

•June 10, 2009 • 2 Comments

This is the wedding that almost wasn’t…. Well, not really…the wedding was always on BUT Kristen and Travis were back and forth between wanting a traditional wedding in Mount Vernon and eloping somewhere fun and fast.  They, obviously, decided to stay with a traditional wedding and, after experiencing their day last Saturday, I must say that I think they made the right choice!  These two have such wonderful family and friends and it was very clear that they all have a great time together.  That is exactly what a wedding should be about – sharing your life and love with those who you care most about….  Congratulations and best of luck…. enjoy the sneak peak of your pictures:

This might have been the best cake-eating experience ever.    Typical cake-eating, right???  Wait for it…
